About our Chapter

Our co-op is classically based, with classes led by Catholic Schoolhouse-trained parent-leaders. We meet in Mattawan on Wednesdays 24 co-op days per year from mid-August to May from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. with an included lunchtime. Built into the year is a mid-winter break that includes 4 additional recess community days. Our schedule is three weeks on, and one week off to offer time for additional school at home, rest, appointments, or field trips!

On co-op days, pre-grammar and Grammar scholars will enjoy classroom activities covering history, timeline, science, religion, math, language arts, Latin, art, speech, and geography. Each week scholars will have the opportunity to conduct hands on art projects and science experiments. Read more about the pre-grammar and grammar programs.

Scholars grades 7 through 12 will also have the opportunity for hands on art projects on alternating weeks in addition to their class covering history, Latin/greek, composition, literature, speech, and economics. Dialectic students will have the opportunity for 12 hands on science experiments through the year. Read more about dialectic and rhetoric programs.

Families of all educational philosophies are part of our co-op from classical to Charlotte Mason to eclectic. You do not need to run your homeschool by a classical model to be part of the co-op. Catholic schoolhouse can be used as a supplemental curriculum, or as a spine for your homeschool curriculum. Catholic Schoolhouse does not replace mathematics, phonics or other learning to read curriculum.

At home time commitment each week for pre-grammar and grammar-aged children is at least 15 minutes per week but can be expanded on with resources through Catholic Schoolhouse’s Basecamp (accessible after registration). It is recommended for pre-grammar and grammar to be taught at home for 15 minutes per day (or more). Dialectic-aged students should expect a minimum of two hours per week of independent homework and prep for class, while rhetoric-aged students should expect three hours per week. Dialectic and Rhetoric homework can be expanded upon at home if desired.
